JNPT outlines plans for vessel operations during commissioning of new RMQCs at JNPCT in March-April Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has outlined plans for vessel handling operations at the main container berth of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT) during the replacing of the existing three old RMQCs with new Super post-Panamax RMQCs at the berth, and shifting of the old RMQCs to the shallow draught berth in March/April 2014. It says in a trade notice: During the installation/commissioning of three new RMQCs alongside main container berth and mechanisation of shallow draught berth, the normal operations alongside main container berth is likely to get hampered between 17.03.2014 to 30.04.2014. The shallow draught berth will also be closed partially from 01.03.2014 to 30.04.2014, about which a separate trade notice will be issued by 15.02.2014. While we are making appropriate arrangements to handle maximum number of vessels within the constraints due to non-availability of adequate operational berth length in accordance with LOA of service vessels, we will not be in a position to handle nearly 22 vessels from the period 17.03.2014 to 30.04.2014. The concerned Window Operators have been apprised individually regarding handling of vessels during the aforesaid period. View above, we have requested both NSICT and GTI to handle 22 vessels which JNPCT cannot handle during the commissioning period of RMQCs. Accordingly, the concerned agencies have been requested to approach NSICT and GTI for necessary arrangements. For any reason, if the handling of vessels is not possible at NSICT or GTI, the concerned agencies have been advised to make adequate arrangements, including the option of using Vallarpadam Terminal for transhipment in light of relaxation in cabotage and/or transhipment of ex-im cargo from/to nearby terminals like Mundra, Pipavav, Hazira, etc. depending on the voyage route, if required. The entire set of cranes, i.e. all nine RMQCs, including new RMQCs alongside main container berth and three old RMQCs shifted to SDB, is expected to be available for operations with effect from 01.05.2014.
