JOB ADVERTISEMENT Starting September 1st, 2014 the Institute of Social Sciences at the Christian-Albrechts- University of Kiel, Department of Political Science (Prof. Dr. Christian Martin) is seeking to fill one position of a Junior Researcher The position is available for an initial period of 2 years with the option of extension for one additional year with the goal of acquiring a doctorate in political science. The position entails the responsibility of teaching two courses per year in a semester system. Regular weekly hours are 50 percent of a full time employee (currently 19.35 hours per week). The salary for the Junior Researcher position is based on the German federal public service scale (E 13 TV-L). Employment is in accordance with the regulations for Junior Researchers at the Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel. Description of duties: Collaborating in research and teaching in the field of Comparative Politics (Prof. Dr. Christian Martin); in particular: Support in securing external funding for research projects in the fields of globalization research and research into phenomena of political interdependence Support in ongoing research projects in the field of Comparative Politics Support in organizational tasks in research projects and in teaching The successful candidate will be advised in writing a doctoral thesis in one of the following areas: Comparative Politics, Globalization, Biological Foundations of Politics Requirements: Above average degree in political sciences or a neighboring discipline (Economics, Sociology, Administrative Sciences) Willingness to write a doctoral thesis and to pursue a doctorate on either a topic from globalization research OR a topic related to the biological foundations of politics A discernible focus on research question of theory guided, empirically oriented political science Above average knowledge of quantitative, experimental and/or simulation methods that has usually been demonstrated by the use of such methods in a final thesis Ability to speak German is a plus but not a prerequisite Women are especially encouraged to apply.
