JOB DESCRIPTION Position title: Regional Director – Fundraising & Partnerships Reports to: WWF Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Programme Office (ESARPO) Representative I.Mission of the Department: To ensure high performing ESARPO fundraising efforts and strong partnerships that ensure delivery of conservation impact on issues and in places that are key for WWF’s Global Initiatives and other global conservation priorities. Major Functions: Leads the fundraising efforts on behalf of ESARPO including planning, managing and ensuring the delivery of an agreed fundraising budget. Manages and implements a fundraising action plan covering PSP’s, foundations and corporate/major donors fundraising and communications to the extent of supporting country directors to satisfy current donor needs and maintain oversight of fundraising across the region. II. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Managing all fundraising roles and dotted line responsibility for communications related to fundraising, grant management, reporting and M&E. Setting of personal objectives/ action plans for Partnerships support/fundraising roles in relevant countries related to quality of M&E, number of donor reports completed and submitted on time, number of large proposals submitted and secured, income raised, number of donors, evidence of work across country offices. Build a culture across the office of pursuing the opportunities that offer the highest level of funding, are multiyear, GPF and prioritise those that offer the most unrestricted funds and the least reporting strictures. Developing reports and systems so that fundraising income is analysed and reported on each year. Leading the development of a system/database that is able to profile donors and potential donors to enable fundraising. Prioritise, organize and lead proposal development where appropriate for the highest opportunities especially trans-boundary work. Implementing and monitoring the Donor Care Plan, which will involve working across the network to set up training for relevant colleagues in programmes to improve donor reporting and management. Working across the organization to ensure that fundraising is maximized (systematically working with NO’s and Int’l at programme and fundraising level) Donor care and development - Work with NO’s and directly with donors to understand gaps in donor care and opportunities to develop donors. - Work with programme teams across ESARPO on programme/project development, monitoring and evaluation and developing proposal bids and reports for institutional and foundation donors. - Recruit support from across the network for training that will aid and improve donor care and developing new donors - Work with countries to research current and potential donors funding pots over the coming three years match these against existing programmes and strategies. - Work with communication teams to develop other donor materials such as case studies, annual reports, updates and support teams to use these with donors. Fundraising growth - Oversee research/scoping work and analysis of previous donor income for all six countries and look into potential for decentralised funds from new donors - Work out a realistic fundraising income budget for the next three years, which shows growth and where it will come from. 2 - Create detailed plans for pursuing specific funding pots regionally from key donors and assist country level fundraisers to produce country level plans. - Set up system for regional management of major donors EU, NORAD, SIDA, UNDP, DFID, FINNIDA, USAID and UNEP. Understand giving across the region and then work with donors, Country Directors/Regional Rep to map opportunities for developing regional/trans-boundary partnerships. - Lead development of materials for fundraising with institutional donors and other donors. - Support Country Directors and Regional Rep to fundraise better by preparing briefings, advice on funding opportunities and tailored approaches for individual donor meetings, events etc. Required Functional Skills: Advanced university degree in an appropriate field (conservation / environment / institutional development, business management / administration); At least seven years institutional fundraising experience and strategic planning experience. Ideally the candidate would already possess key relationships with major donors such as the EU, UNDP, DFID, SIDA, NORAD, DANIDA Broad working experience and good knowledge of conservation and development issues in Eastern & Southern Africa and Africa in general, with at least five years of experience in the region Knowledge of the international development and donor community in Eastern and Southern Africa, as well as of relevant policy issues; Required Behavioural Skills: Good writing and presentation skills, ability to develop and co-ordinate fundraising efforts and to work effectively with a wide variety of partners and disciplines. Diplomatic and multi-cultural skills, especially in the African context. Proven leadership and team management skills; Skilled in negotiation, liaison, and in relationship and conflict management; Strong skills in proposal writing and experience working with donors; Strong organisational and analytical skills; Excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to network and to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels, government agencies, the not-for-profit sector, the scientific community, the business community, and the WWF Network; Adaptable, flexible, able to take initiative and prioritize among competing demands; Adheres to WWF’s values, which are:. Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging III. Working Relationships: Internal - Interacts with the fundraisers, Policy & Partnerships Advisor, Programme Managers and Grant Coordinators across the region Office, country offices on daily basis. Co-ordinates and interacts also with WWF International and the WWF Network staff as appropriate. Interacts with the Global Initiative teams, eco-region teams and other WWF Network staff. External - Interacts as required with donors, regional governmental institutions, non-governmental organisations, the media and external partners. Interacts with entities outside the ESARPO region as agreed with the Representative.
