BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Performs as a Vegetation Management Specialist. Plans and integrates the diverse vegetation management program on the Forest, utilizing an interdisciplinary; ecosystem orientated approach in coordination with a variety of resource specialists (eg. Fire/fuels, timber, range, fish and wildlife, recreation etc). Oversees, develops and analyzes a complex program of vegetation management activities, including vegetation, fuels, and timber sales, to meet Forest land and multiple-use resource management plan goals and objectives. Devises strategies to overcome significant resource and/or environmental problems. Develops and reviews Forest level vegetation management inventories, which includes analyses to determine areas requiring long-range vegetation management in terms of the total ecosystem. Reviews and evaluates the Forest vegetation resource to determine the Forests capacity to meet potential sale quantity, protection needs and regeneration capability. Serves as the Forest contact for vegetation, fuels, and timber management-related issues within the region and with other National Forests. Serves as the Forest-level specialist with responsibility for technical expertise and development and/or review of timber sale planning, sale and contract preparation, administration, post-sale treatments, silviculture, and forest-pest management.
