JOB OPPORTUNITY POSITION: EDITORIAL DIRECTOR – ABN KENYA SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS: ABN Kenya, the East Africa headquarters for CNBC Africa and Forbes Africa, is seeking an Editorial Director to supervise and coordinate news staff and all news activities in a manner that will produce quality content for CNBC Africa and Forbes Africa. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Set goals, objectives and standards for news staff and news content. • Create and execute coverage strategies and plan assignments. • Manage news staff. • Responsible for keeping ABN editorial team members informed of news and content provision from East Africa. • Responsible for final news product. • Possess excellent business news judgment to lead our news coverage for CNBC Africa and Forbes Africa in East Africa. • Coach and motivate a strong team of journalists to create world-class business newscasts and stories. • Create and lead aggressive breaking news strategy. • Maintain organizational structure for the editorial staff as to job titles, chain of command, and responsibilities. • Responsible for implementing and assuring that the editorial staff follow all company policies. • Adhere to the operating budget of the editorial department. • Attend regular and requested meetings to advise and update staff and other management on editorial operations and issues as well as manager meetings as requested to ensure open communications within station. • Coordinate all production and technical requirements for broadcasts. • Coordinate all technical requirements/problems. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports to the Head East Africa. DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor of Arts or Science in journalism or communications is desired. • Minimum 5 years business news experience desired. • Experience in newsroom management or supervision.
