JOB OPPORTUNITY RESEARCH ASSISTANT – FP7 CRISIS COMMUNICATIONS Introduction DRIVER (Driving Innovation in Crisis Management for European Resilience) is one of most ambitious pan European research projects ever undertaken. The focus is on crisis management (CM), involving a consortium of approximately 30 members, across 13 member states and with a budget of roughly €45 million. DRIVER is the largest CM research project in Europe, if not the world. DRIVER aims to develop a pan European test bed enabling the benchmarking of new CM solutions. It aims at the development of a portfolio of tools that will improve CM at Member State and EU level. Q4PR is responsible for one of DRIVER’s work packages (WP), that of crisis communications. Our international partners in this area are the University of Stuttgart (USTUTT), the Austrian Red Cross (ARC) and TNO (Netherlands). It is in this context that we are seeking research support. In months 1-24 of this WP we will be carrying out an analysis and of existing crisis communications plans and strategies, in terms of both academic and practical work and in the context of existing strategies at Member State, EU and stakeholder level. We will also be carrying out an extensive stakeholder mapping exercise including media and public policy makers, of those across CM and preparing for research experiments to be conducted later in the project’s life. The Right Candidate • Will hold a postgraduate degree with a significant research element (Masters or doctorate) • Is ambitious and a self-starter • Will have a strong and proven facility for research in the areas of crisis communications / public policy • Will have experience creating and managing databases • Can work efficiently to deadlines • Will work within the broader Q4PR DRIVER team – this will include regular conference calls and email contact with other members • Will work close to full-time up to June 2015 with a further 12months available and subject to discussion • Will be required at times to travel for meetings ( travel and accommodation will be paid for ) The successful candidate will be remunerated appropriately and will become part of one of Europe’s most ambitious and far reaching projects, offering invaluable research experience and exceptional networking opportunities within the broader EU policy community.
