Job Summary The IE3 Global Internships Regional Director will have a primary focus in Africa and the Middle East with additional responsibilities in other regions of the world as needed. The Regional Director is part of the core IE3 management team charged with program planning, student advising, marketing, policy formulation and day-to-day management of an international internship program. The Regional Director will have deep and broad knowledge of the cultural, political and linguistic landscape of their assigned region in order to adequately prepare interns in orientation and guide them through challenges while in-country. The Regional Director is part of the core IE3 management team charged with program planning, student advising, marketing, policy formulation, risk mitigation and emergency response, and day-to-day management of an international internship program. The IE3 Global Internships program involves all institutions of the Oregon University System (OUS), additional in-state and out-of-state partner universities, and other private partner and host organizations. The internship program provides students with academically accredited opportunities for short-term professional assignments abroad in preparation for careers in the global economy. Management and continued development of the program rests with an IE3 Global Internships core management team including the IE3 Associate Director and Regional Directors. The position holder directs all program development and placement operations for current and new internship activities in Africa and the Middle East and other regions of the world as assigned. In partnership with the Associate Director and the other members of the Regional Director team, the Africa and Middle East Regional Director makes decisions impacting program planning, marketing, policy formulation and day-to-day management of the IE3 Global Internship Program. S/He is also responsible for determining internship site development priorities in the designated regions, selects, develops and monitors all host sites, and screens, orients and places students in appropriate sites. The Regional Director reports to the Associate Director -- IE3. The Regional Director directly supervises Regional Advisors as assigned. Work experience: Required: Master’s degree in related field; substantial relevant professional experience may be considered an equivalent. Must have at least one year of work and/or living or significant travel experience in Africa. Must have at least one year of direct experience advising, preparing and overseeing college age (or high school) participants involved in international volunteer, internship, experiential learning or study abroad programs, or commensurate experience. Intermediate spoken and written French required. Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills; strong computer skills; and a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity with the ability to work in a collaborative, dynamic, team-oriented work setting. Preferred: The ideal candidate will have additional work and/or living or significant travel experience in the Middle East and/or another world region beyond Africa. Specific preparation and experience in cross-cultural training highly preferred. Excellent web-based computer skills (new media and emerging technologies, databases). Experience with Studio Abroad or Application Gateway, or similar online application systems would be a plus. Demonstrated skills in marketing, public speaking and program promotion. Other job-related skills and abilities: Detail-oriented. Ability to multi-task critical.
