JOB VACANCY CBM is an international Christian disability and inclusive development organization whose primary purpose is to improve quality of life of the world’s poorest persons with disabilities and those at risk of disability, who live in the most disadvantaged societies. We are looking to recruit an Accountant for our Regional Office based in Nairobi. ACCOUNTANT Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply for this position. This position exists to provide support to ensure efficiency in the functioning of the CBM Regional Office Accounts Department. Duties and Responsibilities: • To implement and maintain proper accounting systems as per CBM’s policies; • To implement any accounts related policy decisions; • To assist in creating, monitoring and updating financial related policies and procedures; • To handle all requests for payments, ensuring that these are adequately approved as per established guidelines, and that adequate supporting documentation is on hand; • To regularly invoice and follow up all debtors and payables of CBM for services rendered; • Maintaining the petty cash book and cashbook; and preparing cash and bank reconciliation statements and adjusting journals; • To ensure the safe keeping of all cheque books (KShs., USD, EUR). • To ensure proper cash flow management; • Within guidelines and areas of work agreed upon with the Senior Accountant to draft correspondence relating to accounting work; • To develop required financial reports, analyses, and projections; • To ensure that RO financial reporting requirements of the CBM International Office are adequately fulfilled; • To prepare draft accounts and audit schedules, and interacting with internal and external auditors in completing audits. Required qualifications and experience: • Work experience in similar field, particularly with international NGO or international development organization; • Professional qualifications in accounting an advantage (CPA-K, ACCA, CIMA); • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or Management. • Computer literate and familiar with use of spreadsheets and accounting packages; • Ability to develop and maintain accounting systems which handle large amounts of information; • Ability to prioritize work, and meet deadlines; • Good written and spoken English; • Effective communication skills; • An effective team player who is also able to work independently; • Ability to integrate into a multi-cultural environment; Application Procedures: Applicants should email their applications attaching a detailed curriculum vitae (including current and expected salary) and an application letter indicating why they are interested in and qualified for the position and the names of three referees who can provide confidential assessment of their capabilities.
