JOE ASINDI WROTE: When soldiers are deployed to war zones, they - TopicsExpress

JOE ASINDI WROTE: When soldiers are deployed to war zones, they never openly complain of the risk of being killed or injured. It is called selfless service to humanity and selfless service to humanity bears no fear or risk of losing ones life. An oath was taken ONCE to save lives at ALL cost including emergency situations. We have to defend the oath and this is not some sort of Obembes oath. It is Hippocratic! Personally, I think the arrival and spread of the Ebola virus should provide a safe or soft landing for NMA to call off the 5 weeks old strike and help a sick Nation. It is more dignifying to use your power as the lead health care personnel to save your country from an outbreak than to maintain a fight with an amorphous group and an inept govt. If an outbreak occurs, you bet your current president and all his political cronies scattered as governors and ministers and commissioners will be given a presidential treatment like the Ebola infected American doctor you saw on CNN. They will be flown abroad in a second! All over the world, people are making mockery of the current NMA strike with most of them saying......So it is because non doctors want to be called consultants that sick and innocent people have to die? Or is it because a group of paramedics now want non doctors as heads of hospitals that the frontline health workers have to down tools? If patient care and chain of commands will be compromised, show us the proofs. We are scientists and we dont rely on speculations or assumptions. We were also taught differential diagnosis and we also rely on lab results or X rays films to confirm diagnosis. The story of the consultant Nurse and Surgeon at UCH was just a case of indiscipline if that story will ever make headlines. There are numerous examples and references that non doctors run hospitals and there are references and good and living examples that non doctors are titled as consultants whereas we can boldly say these are SOLID proofs. And it is also a proof that our health system is lagging in so many ways. People are prevented from moving up the career ladder because of our perceptions. Where is the proof that these deviations from our normal hospital strata may cause one patient to die in our hospital or will cause patients to die or leave them worse than they came into the hospital. Number of years spent in higher education does not confer wisdom on anyone. It may determine the level of wage relativity but certainly not wisdom. The wisest man that ever lived was uneducated.....yet he healed the sick free of charge and even raised the dead. If our lead health worker is asked to work in the morgue and raise dead people to life, the asking price for hazard allowance will be tripled the current market value which is unquantifiable. If this Ebola virus becomes an outbreak in Nigeria, Nigerians will never forgive Nigerian doctors and NMA. Good name is better than hazard allowance! This is the best time(Ebola time) to show the whole world that some of the best doctors in the world are in Nigeria working under the most difficult conditions. Remember the litmus test? Isnt now the best time to be called a Medical Doctor in Nigeria?
