JOHANNESBURG – ANC National Executive Member and Member of Parliament, Pule Mabe, is due to appear in court on Wednesday morning on charges of fraud, theft and money laundering. Mabe is a former ANC Youth League Treasurer General. Mabe is accused, along with Surprise Ramosa and Paseka Letsatsi, of defrauding the South African Security Agency (Sassa) of R2,2-million in a complicated series of illegal payments in 2008. Letsasti was the communications manager at Sassa when the monies were allegedly illegally paid to three companies. According to the charge sheet, there is no evidence that he received any money directly, however companies directly linked to Mabe and Ramosa received payments. According to the charge sheet, Letsatsi is accused of compiling a memorandum requesting the approval of payment for three invoices totaling R2,2-million. The payments were made to three companies – Consolidated Investment Holdings, Surprise SK and Ballanoto Investment Holdings. Sassa was paying the companies for work they allegedly performed for the Consolidated Future Growth (CFGI) Trust and the Progressive Young Women’s Cooperative. However, according to the charge sheet, the companies didn’t perform any duties. Investigators also found that the CFGI Trust did not have a bank account until a year after it received the Sassa funds and when it did get bank account, Mabe was the sole signatory. However, he was not a trustee not founder of the trust. According to the charge sheet, the Progressive Young Women’s Cooperative was not registered with the Master of the High Court. The charge sheet alleges that the three companies paid large portions of the money received from Sassa into two accounts of the company Mabe owns – KG Project Management. Payments to Mabes company allegedly included: R300 000 via Consolidated Investement Holdings R1-million via Surprise SK between September 2008 and November 2008 R340 000 from Bollanoto Ramosa owns Surprise SK Investments, which also received large portions of the money.
