JOHN AND GWEN HASPELS CONTINUE TO RECOVER IN SOUTH AFRICA. Gwen was under induced sedation for several days following her extensive surgeries to repair her jaw. As of Friday 10/10 she still has a tracheotomy tube inserted and therefore is not yet able to talk, but has been communicating in writing. It is anticipated that she will be transported to the US this week for further care. Daughter Desta is providing good companionship, singing hymns and Christian songs (Matt Redmans Oh no, you never let go seems to be a particular favorite). John is currently scheduled for two surgeries, one to remove a small fragment (of tooth or bone) that has been discovered by xray, and one to reattach his retina. Even with these two procedures, doctors are not optimistic that his sight will be fully restored. John writes that he and his family are expecting a miracle, because the hand of God has been evident in all that has happened. John writes, We are simple bush missionaries and dont smoke or drink or do facebook ... even email is a challenge. He does share with everyone how deeply grateful he and Gwen are for Gods presence sustaining them in the midst of all of this, and for the great outpouring of prayer and support that they have received.
