JOHN CARPENTER MEMOIRS OF AN INVISBALE MAN OK so tonights final Carpenter review is of his take on the Invisible man story. Memoirs of an Invisible Man is a 1992 film directed by John Carpenter and released by Warner Bros., with many scenes taking place in and around San Francisco. The film is loosely based on a 1987 novel of the same name by H.F. Saint. According to William Goldmans book Which Lie Did I Tell?, the film was initially developed for director Ivan Reitman; however, this version never came to fruition, due to disagreements between Reitman and Chevy Chase. I have to say this is one of his most mainstream and classy movies as opposed from his more cult movies. It stars Chevy Chase and is based around the character Nick Holloway being accidently involved in a failed lab experiment which leaves him invisible! Holloway goes on the run from a NSA type organisation which wants to recruit him for covert operations or see him dead and then has various adventures as he learns to adapt to being invisible while pursuing his love interest Daryl Hannah. The main hook to this movies is the dry wit, cutting edge effects and the way his condition is treated. For instance if Chevy smokes you can see the smoke fill and out line his lungs, and when he eats he has to eat foods which are light and digest very quickly or you can see his stomach contents floating around in space. No one had really thought of these factors before but In truth theres a great many clever things going on in this film but the main point - Like Starman - is basically a dysfunctional love story. https://youtube/watch?v=eEeHNzGFMZo
