JOIN THE PLANET ... Take ACTION !! LATRO - LAMP FROM ALGAE. IT PRODUCES ELECTRICITY WITH PHOTOSYNTHESIS... It works with human breath. Thanks to the research of scientists from the universities of Stanford and Yansei, the way of generating electricity exploited photosynthesis was found. With this knowledge, the designer Mike Thompson believe this curious lamp that you only need to run is carbon dioxide, water and sunlight. These algae produce a small amount of power when they perform photosynthesis, its enough to light the lamp. Since it is based on the process of photosynthesis, this lamp must remain during the day in a suitable location, where to receive the light of the Sun. In addition, it has a small nozzle in which the owner can breathe to provide CO2 needed for the artifact to do its magic. A valve allows you to escape to the oxygen that it produces as waste during the operation of the lamp, and another allows you to add water to the Chamber of the algae when necessary. Simple, nice and efficient, Latro is an example of how we could copy nature to generate energy without damage - sometimes irreversibly - our environment. WHAT IS PHOTOSYNTHESIS? Photosynthesis is a process by which plants, algae and some bacteria capture and use the energy of light to transform its external environment inorganic matter in organic material to be used for their growth and development. Currently, there are a number of chemical projects on artificial reproduction of photosynthesis, intending to capture solar energy on a large scale in the not-too-distant future. While still has not been synthesized an artificial molecule capable of lasting polarized during the time needed to react usefully with other molecules, the prospects are promising, and the scientists are optimistic. The industrial designer Mike Thompson, inspired by a scientific breakthrough conducted earlier this year by researchers at the universities of Yansei and Stanford which extracted from algae a small electric current (from chloroplasts of algae cells) during the process of photosynthesis, created Latro lamp that draws its power from algae contained in a glass Chamber... THIS IS HOW IT WORKS... Latro is a hanging lamp that draws its power from algae and these need only sunlight, carbon dioxide (CO2) and water to survive. As soon as it is placed the lamp on the outside and breathe within it through its handle, it begins the process of energy production that can be stored in a battery which then will be used during the night to illuminate us. Inspired by a scientific breakthrough made earlier this year by researchers at the Yansei University and Stanford University, incorporates a pioneering technique using electrodes to scale Nano that are introduced into the organs of photosynthesis (chloroplasts) of the algae cells, getting to make a small electric current from your metabolism. Algae need only sunlight, carbon dioxide (CO2) and water to survive; and that we have to hand over fist, making attractive sources these species to take advantage of their power in the future. Latro (from the latin thief), embodies the potential of the natural energy of the algae and the functionality of a design lamp. Breathing in the handle of the lamp provides the algae CO2, while another hole allows the addition of water and the release of oxygen. By placing the lamp in the light of the day, algae synthesize food starting from CO2 and water. A sensor controls the intensity of the light, only allowing the accumulation of power when the level of light intensity reaches a certain threshold, a safety mechanism to prevent malnutrition of algae of both squeeze of their biological processes. This energy can be stored in a battery ready for use during the hours of darkness. And most importantly: the owners of a Latro the criticism of THOMSON to the companies electric... Mike Thomson graduated by the Eindhoven Design Academy that recently surprised us by a concept of an unusual lamp powered by human blood, created by way of criticism towards the electric companies. The Blood Lamp was a lamp of a single use, since you had to break it and cut with the glass, then mix the blood with a liquid so this will illuminate. It was a critique about how utilities drink our blood, and also, as our energy waste also will eventually leave us without it. Now Mike Thomson enters directly in the heart of the matter, and instead of criticizing, shut and shop around, offers a tangible and ecological solution to the problem of energy waste; and the hand of our friends the green algae.
