JOINT MEDIA RELEASE MORETON BAY REGION TO RECEIVE FUNDING IN THE FIGHT AGAINST WILD DOGS Six State MP’s with electorates in the Moreton Bay Regional Council area have teamed up to commend the announcement that the Moreton Bay Regional Council has been awarded $75,000 funding from the Newman Government to support them in combating wild dogs in the region. Member for Pine Rivers, Seath Holswich said the key to controlling wild dogs was collaborative efforts between landholders, industry, communities, local and state governments. “Over the past year we have made considerable inroads against wild dogs but we have to keep the pressure on and find new ways of reducing their impact.’ Member for Morayfield, Darren Grimwade said “The project by the Moreton Bay Regional Council will focus on the establishment of a wild dog (pest animal) mapping system to support targeted management programs.” “Moreton Bay Regional Council is one of 14 councils and industry groups to receive funding for local projects involving mapping and wild dog control,” said Trevor Ruthenberg, Member for Kallangur. Member for Pumicestone, Lisa France said “Councils should be using resources and strategies to ensure a consistent approach. All of our hard work is undone if wild dogs are not managed in adjoining council areas.” Member for Murrumba, Reg Gulley said he was delighted by the level of interest shown by the council in fighting wild dogs. In May the Newman Government offered significant funding to councils in southern, central and north western Queensland and industry to target wild dogs in pastoral and semi-rural areas. “There was a strong response to this offer, underlining how serious local governments and their communities are taking this problem,” Dale Shuttleworth, Member for Ferny Grove said.
