JOINT PROJECT TO LOOK AT THE FUTURE OF CASCADE ESTATE………… and Cable Car? I met CUB Management from Melbourne today at the signing of an MOU between HCC and Cascade for a strategic review of 250 hectares of mountain land (details below). I asked the CUB execs about their Company’s “in principle support” for a Cable Car over their land. It was categorically denied. I was advised there was no way the Company gave, nor would give any support without first complying with all legislative, environmental, and stakeholder requirements. And they relayed this to representatives of the Cable Car proponent just recently . What they did approve, was allowing the proponent permission to carry out any research and data collecting on the land. Nothing more. CUB are forwarding correspondence to me in the coming days. The City of Hobart and Cascade Brewery are about to embark on a joint planning project to develop a long term strategy for 250 hectares of Cascade Brewery bushland located between Hobart’s suburban fringe and kunanyi / Mount Wellington. The desired outcome of the Cascade Strategic Land Review are recommendations for specific initiatives that deliver economic, conservation and recreational benefits for Cascade and the community. At 250 hectares, the Cascade Estate is the largest privately-owned bushland area in the City of Hobart and the estate contains outstanding recreational, environmental and heritage values. Cascade spokesman Mike Unsworth said “The study gives Cascade the opportunity to understand what its requirements for the future use of the land may be and if better mechanisms exist for its overall management.” The Cascade Estate plays a vital role in linking Hobart with kunanyi / Mount Wellington.
