JOKE OF THE WEEK: OCCUPY EDSA Even the most even tempered - TopicsExpress

JOKE OF THE WEEK: OCCUPY EDSA Even the most even tempered netizens were surprised when disparate anti-government groups came out with a new propaganda campaign: Occupy Edsa. Apparently inspired by the Occupy Hongkong campaign of pro-democracy protesters in that former British Crown colony now part of the China, anti-government netizens want to replicate it here to force the incumbent President to resign and cause of the downfall of the current government. But every conscientious netizen could not help but ask: Where in EDSA? EDSA, or Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, is a 26-kilometer, 14-lane road artery that slices through the heart of Metro Manila; it stretches in six cities: Kalookan, Quezon City, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Makati, and Pasay. Every netizen would definitely feel lost when it comes to the specific EDSA stretch that would have to be occupied. If it would be the EDSA stretch, which is part of the Makati, the immediate suspicion is that the beleaguered Vice President Jejomar Binay and his three children, who occupy sensitive elective government posts, are behind the propaganda campaign. They must be funding this propaganda ploy. If so, netizens would not join because quite a number tend to agree that any protest action is predicated on the Vice Presidents appearance before the Senate. The Senate is the right forum, not the streets, or mass media, where he continues to raise what could be viewed as the most ludicrous arguments to extricate himself from the sticky situation he now has in connection with the grossly overpriced Makati parking building. It could not be the Mandaluyong City side because Mayor Benhur Abalos is busy with his little kingdom - the city of which he has the mayor for several years. Although his father, Benjamin, former Commission on Elections chair, briefly went to jail, the son is not notorious for harboring rancor. If not running the City Hall, Benhur is busy tending to his racehorses. He has established a reputation as an excellent breeder and horseowner of note. Benhur would not waste his time on protest actions, the efficacy of which for him is hardly discernible. Besides, Robinson owner John Gokongwei and Megamall owner Henry Sy would not be comfortable with a protest action right on their backyards. It is bad for business, they would insist. It is bad luck to engage in protest actions when the Christmas season is fast approaching. It would not be in front of those military camps - Camp Crame and Camp Aguinaldo; their guards would immediately disperse them. Or it would not be in the Quezon City side because it is run by leaders, almost all of whom belong to the ruling Liberal Party. It would not be in the San Juan side because the Estradas are not known for moral courage. Or in the Pasay City or Kalookan City side, which are on the extreme ends of the line. They are too far away from mainstream Metro Manila. It is impractical to hold the protest action in either end. Now, they want the people to rise up to force the President to resign. But how could it be possible when those anti-government people could not succeed in his impeachment? They must be dreaming. Occupy EDSA? This is a joke.
