JOMO COSMOS MAKE A U-TURN ON SIMKONDA Jomo Cosmos are no longer interested in signing Flames lanky striker Gastin Simkonda after discovering that he is managed by a South Africa based international players management firm. The South Africa National First Division side was ready to offer the Moyale Barracks striker an outright contract but the club’s owner Jomo Sono made the sudden u-turn. The club’s local representative Ben Chiwaya confirmed about the development. Chiwaya said the main reason was because the club does not want to deal with a South Africa firm in the player’s negotiations. “Jomo was ready to offer Simkonda an outright contract. He was not even going to undergo any trials because he saw him play for Malawi n Zambia at the Cosafa Cup. “He was very impressed with the player’s performance and wanted him to be part of his squad next season. He actually sent me to start negotiations with the club(Moyale).” However, along the way Sono discovered that they had to negotiate with a South Africa player management firm. “That’s when he (Jomo) decided to pull the plug otherwise right now we could have concluded everything. You know, Jomo does not like dealing with middle man. It complicates things. He would rather talk with the player’s club directly,” Chiwaya explained. A number of layers including Simkonda, Lucky Malata, and Gabadinho Mhango have been signed by a South Africa based player managers Prosport. The trio all went for trials in South Africa but they failed to clinch deals after undergoing trials at several clubs. Malata first went for trials at Bidvest Wits before moving to Mpumalanga Black Aces where he also failed to clinch a deal. Simkonda went to undergo trials at Bloemfontein Celtic but he also failed to make a mark. Mhango went to Amazulu for trials but ended up at Celtic and Free State Stars in search for a contract which he did not get.
