JON DALY says Rangers would fancy themselves against most sides in the next round of the Scottish Cup – provided the Light Blues are drawn at home. Ally McCoist’s men were convincing winners last night as they beat Airdrieonians 3-0 at Ibrox, with the Irish striker scoring twice and David Templeton rounding off the win. That result sent Gers into the fourth round of this season’s knockout contest, the stage of the tournament where top-flight teams begin their bids to claim the trophy. With 14 victories in a row to their name at present, many fans of the League One leaders feel they could compete with the majority of sides in Scotland. And with belief in the squad growing the longer the good run continues, it seems that’s the case among the players too. Daly, of course, was a winner of the Scottish Cup in 2010 when he and his old side Dundee United beat Ross County 3-0 in the final at Hampden. The 30-year-old is keen to get back to that level having already helped Rangers to their first final of the season, the Ramdens Cup decider with Raith Rovers at Easter Road next April. And if McCoist’s side is selected by Sir Alex Ferguson to play at Ibrox again when the draw takes place in Aberdeen, Daly will be optimistic of getting a result. The 14-goal hitman, speaking on RangersTV, said: “Obviously whoever we get, I think it’s important to get a home draw. “Every club that’s left in the competition will probably be looking for the same thing and we are the same. “We would fancy ourselves at home against the majority of teams and this is where the Premiership clubs come in. “If we do manage to draw one of them, then so be it. We’ll see how we go and try to beat them on the day. “Cup competitions are always difficult. They are one-off games on the day and anything can really happen.”WATP NFSE
