JOURNEY BEYOND ETERNITY Secrets of Prophet Muhammad’s peak experience on the night of Mi’raj - 27 RajabMuhammad! Move forward and do not be afraid. You are invited and you have permission. the Archangel uttered as he stopped at the Lote-Tree of the Furthermost Boundary marking the limits of the created realm. The Prophet ﷺ said, “O Jibril, accompany me!” Gabriel replied, “I cannot, or I will be annihilated by Divine lights” So Muhammad ﷺ , the most Perfect of the Perfect, continued alone. Driven by his love for Allah’s Divine Presence he approached closer and closer, achieving the State of Complete Annihilation (fana) in Divinity Reality in five different stages. From one stage to another, the Prophet moved into Allah’s Divine Secrets. Between each stage was a distance of five-hundred thousand years. He passed through these vast Divine Oceans of Knowledge, and through 70,000 veils of light which envelope the Divine essence until he was completely dissolved in Allah’s Existence, seeing nothing except Him. Then Allah inspired his heart with the following discourse: “I the Rabb (Lord), have veiled myself from the inhabitants of paradise, as I have veiled myself from the inhabitants of the earth. As I veiled Myself from their minds, I veiled myself from their vision. I am never in anything, and I am never away from anything.”He felt that a glowing drop was put on his tongue and he found it cooler than ice and sweeter than honey. Nothing on earth and the seven paradises tasted like it. With this drop, Allah put into Muhammad’s heart the knowledge of the First and the Last, the heavenly and the earthly. All this was revealed to him in one instant shorter than the fastest second. He was ordered to move forward. As he moved he found himself elevated on a throne that can never be described, now or later.Three additional drops were given to him:One on his shoulder consisting in majesty,One in his heart consisting in mercy, and an additional one on his tongue which consisted in eloquence. The Prophet ﷺ then moved through one veil after another until he passed through one thousand veils. Finally he opened the Veil of Oneness. He found himself like a lamp suspended in the middle of a divine air. He was completely annihilated in the Divine Presence. Then a voice came from that presence, which no created being had heard before: “Muhammad! I have made you the intercessor for everyone.” At that moment, the messenger felt his mind enraptured and taken away to be replaced with an astonishing secret. He was placed in the fields of Allah’s Eternity and Endlessness. In the first he found no beginning and in the second he found no end. Then Allah revealed to Him: “My end is in My beginning and My beginning is in My end.”Then Muhammad ﷺ knew that all doors were absolutely closed except those that led to God, that God cannot be described within the confine of a place in speech, and that Allah encompasses the everywhere of all places. This is a secret that no tongue can be stirred to express, no door opened to reveal, and no answer can define.Muhammad ﷺ then looked on his right and saw nothing except His Rabb (Lord), then on his left and saw nothing except his Rabb (Lord), then to the front, to the back, and above him, and he saw nothing except his Rabb (Lord). He hated to leave that honored and blessed place. But Allah said: “Muhammad ﷺ, you are a Messenger to My servants as all Messengers, if you stay here you would never be able to communicate My Message. Therefore descend back to earth, and communicate My message to My servants. Whenever you want to be in the same state as you are now, make your prayers, and I shall open this spiritual state for you.” This is why Muhammad ﷺ stated:”Prayer is the apple of my eyes,” and he called it also: “Our rest.”Allah relates this incident in the Qur’an:Then when He (the Lord) decided to unveil (Himself). And he (Muhammad) was on the uppermost horizon of the realm of creation during the Ascension Night (i.e. on the apex of the created cosmos). Then He (the Lord of Honour) drew closer to His Beloved (Muhammad) and then drew even closer;Until a distance measuring only two bow-lengths was left (between the Unveiled Lover and His Beloved),or even less than that (in extreme nearness). So (on that station of intimacy and union) He revealed to His Servant whatever He revealed. The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. So do you argue with him about what he saw?And certainly, he saw Him (Lord Unveiled) the second time (again and you argue only about seeing Him once). At the Lote Tree of the Furthermost Boundary. Adjacent to which is the Eternal Paradise—Janna al-Ma’wa,When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it].The sight of the Prophet neither swerved aside nor overstepped the limit; (it gazed in ecstasy at Whom it was to gaze). Surely, he saw the greatest signs of His Lord (during the Ascension Night).” — [Surah an-Najm 53:6-18 Translation: Irfan ul-Qur’an]
