JUMP One of the news channels interviewed a woman whose house burned down. What made her loss newsworthy was what took place during the fire. She was trapped in her home two stories up, and she had her two small children with her. They were leaning out of the window to get air when the firemen and police yelled for her to jump. She said just the thought of it made her blood run cold, but she had to think of her children. They held something under the window and calmly began encouraging her to jump. She finally grabbed both kids and jumped, and it turned out to be just in time. The roof caved in and the spot where she had been standing collapsed onto the lower level of the house. This woman needed two things in order to do what she did. The first thing was encouragement and a calming presence from the people on the ground trying to help her. The second thing was assurance that she could trust them to keep her and her children safe. Isnt that just what we need when we turn to God for help in a desperate situation? We have His encouragement in the form of promises in His Word. We have His gift of the Holy Spirit within us to be our calming presence. And we have the proof we can jump because of the times He has come through for us in the past. When thou passeth through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour... (Isaiah 43:2-3a). Love, Doris
