JUNE 2014 -Excerpt from Nona Freeman’s ‘EVERYTHING IS GONNA BE ALL RIGHT’. Sometimes things are not as they appear to be. If you feel someone has wronged you; or if you have wronged them and it bothers you; take the first step and make it right. It may not be as you think at all. GROWING IN GRACE: I had a precious mother in law, and we had a misunderstanding once. Walking down the hall toward the kitchen, I overheard a conversation between her and another family member that said, ‘Her hipbones sticking out like that make her look so gaunt.’ ‘Yeah, you can count her ribs when she turns,’ my mother in law replied. ‘I really don’t think she will make it through the winter,’ the family member said. Shocked, I stood still for a few minutes then fled back to my room to get dressed. ‘So that is what they think of me,’ I thought. I left a note for Granny-Gone for the day. For the next two weeks, I spent most of the time away. Finally, one day before time to get up, Granny knocked on our bedroom door. She came to my side of the bed and said, ‘Nona, honey, I love you very much but you seem to be avoiding me. I must have offended you some way. Would you please forgive me and tell me what is wrong?’ she cried, wiping her tears on her apron. ‘I can’t help it because I’m so skinny,’ I said. ‘I’ve been this way all my life-I heard you both talking about my hipbones sticking out and that I probably wouldn’t make it through the winter.’ She put her apron over her face and I saw her shoulders shaking. I realized then the tears had turned to laughter. She pulled her apron down. ‘Honey, we were not talking about you but about Ole Blue, the cow.’ What a trick the enemy pulled over me! This is something that could have ruined a loving relationship that instead we laughed about for many years. Sometimes things are not as they appear to be, but it is the trick of the enemy to try to exploit and dramatize events! They will make you physically sick, depressed and worse, hinder your walk with Jesus! If there is something in your life you harbor against someone without knowing the true facts, make amends and settle it. It is not worth your soul nor a close relationship with Jesus!
