JUNIORS - U10s KICK OF IN DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE Our U10 girls kicked off their 10 week football development programme on Saturday morning in an all boys league. The programme will provide the girls with hard physical football which will help with their physicality ,speed, awareness and fitness as they play against boys for the 10 weeks. The programme will also provide the girls with good game time on the pitch in a format that differs from the girls only football. Matches are played on a 7 aside basis with 3 x 15 minute periods with the new rule of a free first touch for the defender which will hopefully give players the time and confidence on the ball to try and play a passing game and not just kick it up field. The girls took on Carryduff Colts this morning at Aquainas Primary School. Unfortunately the girls had no subs so all the girls played the full 45 mins. From the off the girls were playing really high up the pitch in the Carryduff defensive third and were putting lots of pressure on their goal. The girls got to grips of the game quicker than the boys and were playing great football with good passing and moving phases from the midfield third to the final third. In the defensive third Amy Jo and Sophie were coping easily with anything coming there way and had the confidence to organise each other where one pushed slightly forward to support the midfield and in turn push and extra body into the attacking third and give the boys all sorts of problems. The girls were doing so well that keeper Jessie had little shots to cope with , but on the only occasion the boys broke thru Jessie came of her line really well and dived at the players feet to collect the ball. In the midfield Hannah, Mackenzie and Lisburns newest recruit Rio were playing nice passing football giving Erin the chance to break at will. At the end of the first third the girls were able to score 3 goals with Jessie not conceding. The second third saw the boys come out with a bit more enthusiasm and quickly broke free to score. But the girls regrouped and started to find the passing game again , with all the girls involved in one of the best goals of the day. From Jessies throw out the girls worked the ball from back to front in a matter of 10 passes and found the finishing touch to score a pretty special goal. At the end of the second third the girls were able to score a further 2 goals only conceding 1. In the last third we thought we would see a drop in work rate with having no subs, but the girls were showing great endeavour and work rate to see out the last 15 minutes. The game was a lot more even and the girls were taking some heavy tackles but all them stood up really well to the physicality of the boys.At the end of the final third the girls again came out on top scoring 2 more goals without reply. A great first week for the girls with great phases of passing football. What was really pleasing was the work rate and willingness the girls showed to win the ball back when it was lost. The girls closed down space individually and when one couldnt win it back another was on hand to back each other up. The girls were pleasingly moving into space for each other and were not afraid to try to pass and had the confidence to try and beat players when it was the only option. The most pleasing thing from my point of view was the girls communication levels with each other, always demanding the ball and always warning each other of dangers. Lets hope the girls can keep these levels up as the programme moves on through the weeks.
