JUNIORS - U17s U17s COME SO CLOSE IN ENTERTAINING MATCH WITH CRUSADERS Our U17 girls took on a strong Crusaders side tonight at Billy Neill centre knowing a win would put them level on points at the top of the league. Having lost twice already to Crusaders the girls came out determined to prove they could compete with the top teams, and compete they did. The game started at a fast pace for the girls and could of been one up after only a minute but they couldnt finish of a good move. The girls were playing some nice football with quick one twos and good movement off the ball. After being on top early the game became end to end with both teams playing some nice quick passing football which would not of been out of place in the higher divisions of the womens leagues. After 10 minutes it was Crusaders who took the lead when the forward lobbed the ball over the on rushing Jamie lee and the winger moved in to tap the ball in from 2 yards. The girls didnt lose heart tho and after 20 minutes Dani picked the ball up on the edge of the centre circle and took a chance at goal, the ball was high and the keeper let the ball bounce on the penalty spot and rooted to her line the ball bounced over her high into the net to bring the girls level. Crusaders were kept to long shots at goal and Jamie lee was on hand to mop up, the game went in level at 1-1 half time. The girls started very quickly again in the second half and after 45 minutes found themselves in front when good pressure from Courtney and Tiarna in the six yard box brought good fortune and Courtney placed the ball in the net from close range. The girls from then seemed to sit back and invite Crusaders on to them making it a bit more hard work. But for all their possession they were held to mostly long range efforts and crosses from either flank and the girls coped pretty well with that pressure. With a lot of long balls coming over the defence Jamie Lee was on hand to come out and cut any danger out. On the hour mark Crusaders got a free kick 30 yards out ,played a quick ball and the girls stood still on the 18 yard line and gave the player way to much time to shoot and put the ball into the roof of the net to bring the game level at 2-2. With 18 left Jamie lee came of injured and Dani went into goal. The girls then had some bad luck when on 63 minutes Corinna also came of injured which left the girls down to 10 having used all 3 subs. The girls from there performed admirably holding out any danger and with a bit more composure on the ball could of went on to win it with Vicky and Tiarnas late on. An absolutely great performance by the all the girls tonight against top of the table opposition. Thats now 2 great results in a week against the top two and now shows the girls belong with the top teams at this level. With wins from our last two games and dome results elsewhere the girls could finish second which would be great performance. The girls now concentrate on a big cup semi final match on Friday night against St Oliver Plunkett at Strangford avenue looking to follow the seniors and reach a cup final. Squad, Jamie lee, Robyn, Caitlin W, Hayley, Abbie, Chelsea, Caitlin S, Dani, Shane, Tiarna, Courtney, Vicky, Corinna, Rachel. match report - Coach Davy Girls in Blue - Play with Passion
