JURY DUTY Jury Duty, like paying taxes is mandatory. Failure to - TopicsExpress

JURY DUTY Jury Duty, like paying taxes is mandatory. Failure to show up is punishable by a fine. I have been summoned yet again to be a juror, sit in a courtroom, get locked up in a deliberating room and later hotel with fellow jurors until a verdict is reached. It takes up to a week. I have successfully evaded jury duty in the past but this time I am cornered. The closest I have come to a courtroom was in the Kibera Law Courts when a very close friend of mine was arrested on charges of corruption. I peeped in the dingy room after the case was over. So to imagine myself sitting in a section of a courtroom, keeping a straight face when I am almost chocking from laughter due to the courtroom drama is hard for yours truly. I dont feel like it, but ignoring the summons is treated like a criminal offense. It is like refusing to go to war once conscripted. They will pay me a minimum wage and feed us on pizza. I will be gagged meaning I cannot discuss the case with anyone. Sometimes we are not allowed to mix with society until the verdict is read. I think I will go this time. Just for the experience and to honor my civic duty. Off I go. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do sometimes. Sigh.
