JUST A CLOSER WALK WITH THEE Its so much fun watching babies learning to walk! First, they pull up to a standing position next to a piece of furniture, or hold onto mommys hands trying out their legs. Then, one day, they push off on their own, finding a wide-stance balance, and take that first tentative step, but they still look for mom or dad, or walk close to the furniture, just in case. And once they figure it out and become confident in their new-found freedom, theres no stopping them! In a way, our Christian walk is similar... we start off tentative, studying the Bible, trying to find our footing, getting to know our Foundation, depending on others for help in understanding difficult aspects of our faith. But one day, we take off and become the mentor of other babes in Christ, teaching and guiding them as they learn of the Savior. Just as children continue to depend on parents for years after those first toddling steps, despite their moves towards independence, we must continually lean on the Lord for strength and comfort regardless of how comfortable we become in our faith. ...have You not kept my feet from falling, that I may walk before God In the light of the living? (Psalm 56:13b NKJV). If we try to be confident in our own knowledge and our dependence on the Lord becomes just a habit, we are sure to fall! It is through drawing closer to Him, that we become stronger in our faith! We need to be like King David, the one who was said to be a friend of God, Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity. I have also trusted in the Lord; I shall not slip. Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; Try my mind and my heart. For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes, and I have walked in Your truth. (Psalm 26:1-3 NKJV).
