JUST A GLIMPSE OF POPE FRANCIS Many persons who suffered from psychological problems encountered healing during the papal visit. I know of one who had carried the trauma of being abandoned by his father whom he saw only last month. His father left his mother when he was a one-year old baby. Though they were happy to see each other, this young man did not cry; it was his father who unabashedly knelt before him crying and asking for forgiveness. When this person had a glimpse of Pope Francis in Roxas boulevard, he just found himself crying without control. He knew that those were tears that he should have shed before his real father. Eastern monks have written a lot about holy tears -- the liberating holy tears that are really expression of intense joy when one is before God. Those tears that this young man shed manifest his joy of experiencing Gods presence. Those tears erased the long years of anger and bitterness that gripped his heart because of being abandoned. Those tears were also of total forgiveness to his father, total forgiveness because before Pope Francis, this young man realized all along that God has not ceased in loving him. Pope Francis allowed him to enter into the mystery of a presence that wipes away anguish and anger. This presence is Jesus, the ocean of mercy and love that absorbs and wipes away all pains. A glimpse of Pope Francis saved that young man.
