JUST HAVE TO GE IT OFF MY CHEST (AND ANSWER CRITICS) AND ITS NOT - TopicsExpress

JUST HAVE TO GE IT OFF MY CHEST (AND ANSWER CRITICS) AND ITS NOT PRETTY TO READ, BUT I CALL IT AS I SEE IT: In Michael Vicks case, what he did personally, with his own hands, was to drown dogs, hang them, and literally smash them to pieces by slamming them repeatedly into the ground. He also electrocuted the dogs (attaching jumper cables to their ears that were attached to car batteries). Sheer torture. As I said, Vick did this with his own hands (in addition to promoting dog fighting). He also threw his own family pets in with his fighting dogs to watch them be mauled. What kind of person does this?? Its been proven scientifically that those who harm animals go on to harm human beings. Mental health professionals say that individuals who torture and kill animals are demonstrating what they would do to humans if they could get away with it. Its all too easy to be a coward and hurt those who cannot defend themselves. Those who are weaker. True, Vicki went to jail and served some time. But most likely, when he says hes sorry, hes sorry that he was caught. I mean, look at what he did. Again, what kind of individual could do these things?? And what kind of message does this send to young people who need positive role models, particularly in our Latino and black communities?? Dog fighting is epidemic in this country, particularly in our communities. Are we telling our youth that it is okay to do these things and that they will just receive a slap on the wrist, like Vick? So many of our youngsters already have so much stacked against them, growing up in the under-served, downtrodden communities they were born in and live in. Lets also be real here about the suburbs, where privileged kids, too, are indulging in these heinous practices. Again, is this the message we want to send our youth, as a society, that you kill and torture animals and just get a slap on the wrist and then go on to be a celebrated sports idol? You are rewarded?? Its all about professional sports. All about money. M oney talks and everything else--including decency, compassion, justice, and a sense of whats right and wrong--walks. Vick is rewarded..... Believe me, EVERY DAY, I see stomach-turning photos of dogs and cats that have been horribly mauled because they were used as bait for fighting dogs. Many of these animals are family pets that have been stolen to serve as bait. This stealing of pets goes on all the time, in all communities. I will never condone such suffering. When I was growing up, the Bible story that killed me was The Slaughter of the Innocents. To this day, it sickens and sears my soul whenever an innocent animal, child or ANYONE is harmed. Im not your conventional religious person, but I think we should ask ourselves, What would Jesus (or God or Allah) say? I can only say that whatever happens in the world of sports, Michael Vick will meet his maker one day, as we will we all. I would like to think Vick was truly repentant. And no, its not my right to judge. Thats Gods right. But it is my right to have an opinion. That is why I cannot be happy about Vick coming to NY..... Thank you for reading and considering my opinion. Vicki
