JUST IN: 12,000 jobless in 2014 RACHEL THIEN BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN Monday, January 19, 2015 15:35:58 A TOTAL of 12,275 people were jobless in 2014, said the minister of Home Affairs during the opening of the Brunei Job Fair 2015 earlier today. In his speech, Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awg Othman also noted how only 1,231 of 3,434 active companies had a workforce made up of over 50 per cent of local employees. The workforce of the remaining 2,223 companies still largely comprised of foreign workers. The active companies these statistics were derived from stretch across the industries of wholesale and retail businesses; hotels, restaurants and eateries; community, social and private services; financial, insurance and legal services and the transport, storage and communication industry. /sn The Brunei Times
