AbinaGOFAMINTRECOGNIZE AND BEHAVE YOUR IDENTITY“For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth…But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim thepraises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy”(Deut 7:6; IPt.2:9-10).The Almighty God in His infinite wisdom called Abraham out of his people to raise a nation through him that He (God) might identify with as His own nation that would be a model and light house to the rest of the world. So God established the nation of Israel and made it a peculiar people, His own elect, He also rated and elevated them above all the nations of the world. In that period, as long as they obeyed God no other nation on earth compared with them. They really enjoyed the blessing of God, the owner of heaven and earth. God fought their battles on their behalfand gave them victory. They were a holy people to the Lord. God blessed King Solomon so much with divine wisdom, honour, wealth and prosperity that no other king on earth has ever attained that greatness whether before him or after him. The privilege they enjoyed was very rare, but unfortunately they failed to live up to expectation. God’s people should be holy as God is holy. God told them, “For I am your LORD God. You shall therefore consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy. Neither shall you defile yourselves with any creeping thing that creeps on the earth” (Lev. 11:44)They were forbidden to serve any idol, they should not marry from any other nation, in short they were to maintain their peculiarity and separation, but they disappointed God. They started to behave like other Gentile nations and God rejected them, because they had turned their back to God to worship idols. But today through Jesus Christ all faithful believers in Christ Jesus both among the believing Jews and all other nations of the world have taken that privilege. According to IPt.2:9,10 God has granted that same privilege which He granted to the Jews with the similar responsibility-the salt of the earth,the light of the world, a holy nation, God’s own special people to inherit the kingdom He has prepared”. But believers should beliving the life of the Kingdom now-by doing the will of God. The Lord Jesus taught that we should pray that God’s kingdom and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Who are supposed to do God’s will now? They are the Christians who are called by the name a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation and God’s special people. As you and I recognize these appellations and are proud of them, it behooves us to behave it that unbelievers will see and be attracted to our God. Holiness or ungodliness is not a commodity that is sold in the world market, it can only be found through genuinefaith in Jesus Christ our Lord.“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”(2Cor.5:17)You, as a Christian, are alive to livethat new life now and attract unbelievers to our Saviour.
