One day if I ever have kids, Ill raise them teaching them that hard work pays off, and you can raise your kids telling them that theyre lucky theyre white and they have a leg up in life! Racist. 1 min · Like Some context: I was explaining what white privilege is, using our common background being from a very wealthy and white community. Yes, I have no doubt that our parents worked hard. But I also know for a fact that working hard is not the only part of the equation. Its a part, and a large part, but we HAVE to acknowledge as privileged white people that being white has SOMETHING to do with it. Yes there are exceptions to the rule, and yes we have an African American president, but racism is not over and pretending these events in Ferguson and the murder of people like Trayvon Martin have nothing to do with race is JUST IGNORANT.
