JUST ONE EYE: PAOLA RUSSO’S VISION Voted as the best concept store in LA by Vogue, Just One Eye is based on the theme of being a boutique and a gallery at the same time. The store takes place at the historic Howard Hughes house, in the very trendy district of West Hollywood. (And for the ones who don’t have the chance to get there, you can also find the shop online) Among the art pieces of Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol and Murakami paintings on the walls, the highly selected pieces from new emerging designers such as Bouchra Jarrar, ex right hand of Nicolas Ghesquière or Yiqing Yin, known for her dresses notably in the short films of Cartier and Guerlain. Close to them on the racks, prestigious ones as Valentino, Paco Rabanne or Alexandre Vauthier. The renown of the shop allowed to launch exclusives collaborations like the backpack by Damien Hirst and The Row or Nate Lowman for Converse. Paola Russo, the co founder of Just One Eye, a Tunisian born and French raised who made her name working for Ann Demeulemeester and as the fashion director of Maxfield, gives us some clue about her visionary force. You know how to select the best pieces from the more established brands to the emerging ones. How do you do it, where does your inspiration comes from to select those pieces? And how are you sure of your choice? I follow whatever my mood is and it’s always different. I get inspired by antiques, architectures from different parts of the world like the outdoor markets in Africa, Thailand, to centuries old Parisian ateliers…I find all these explorations inspiring. How sure am I of my choice? It’s a strong passion that I feel… As well, how do you nose out those new emerging brands? Through my travels, researches, and meeting people. The energy of being in a creative space. How would you define this selection that makes your concept store so unique? Just One Eye is the manifestation of a united vision to bring together creative minds…we give them a chance to collaborate and to share their imaginative ideas. We’re always trying to push the boundaries of what we are and we want to bring something to our customers that consistently inspires and surprises. Just One Eye is a place where edgy ideas and collaborations are born. We have done several collaborations with different artists and designers in the past, and we are always researching for new challenges and collaborations. Your essential piece for the winter coming?
