JUST POSTED: SIX NEW ARTICLES - Three articles in this issue probe the question of state power versus the rights of citizens to question that power. Among them, two address currently developing issues regarding the Constitutional crisis in Japan, in what Jeff Kingston clearly identified as a coup by the Abe Administration in his article. Halperin and Hofsommer from the Open Society Foundations chime in with Kingston by presenting their findings of the disconcerting aberration from the international standards in the Abe administrations recent series of actions in instituting the state secret protection law. And going back in time, Brian Daizen Victoria also traces the Buddhist war resistance against the state power during the Asia-Pacific War through translation of Narusawa Muneos piece which originally appeared in Weekly Friday (Shukan Kinyobi). Victoria also presents another article that is bound to attract attention, on the questionable anti-war stance of the founder of Soka Gakkai International. Conway-Lanz writes about the conflicting perspectives over the ethical viability of civilian bombings, during the Korean War. Finally, Gerteis presents Part 2 of his article featured in APJs collaboration with the popular MIT Visualizing Cultures series on political protests in the interwar period. We hope you will find reading of these articles as rewarding experience.
