JUSTICE? WHAT JUSTICE? ‘The former energy secretary, who was jailed for lying about a decade old speeding offence, has been employed in a two-day-a-week role as the European chairman of American firm Zilkha Biomass Energy. Huhne and his ex-wife Vicky Pryce were released in May after serving just 62 days of their eight month sentences for perverting the course of justice. His biography on the company’s website mentions his position as a Government minister, but does not detail his fall from grace or criminal conviction. The role is believed to pay £100,000 a year, but has caused consternation in Westminster about the movement between politics and business. The Advisory Commission on Business Appointments, which advises the Prime Minister on new jobs for former ministers, have given him the green light to accept the position.’ Chris Huhne was Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change in the British coalition government from 2010 to 2012, and was responsible for the policy behind two key bills: the energy bill of 2011 setting up a new energy-saving framework for the UK, and the electricity market reform to spur low carbon investment replacing Britain’s ageing energy assets.’
