Jack Severance, 58 Published Date Tuesday, 07 January 2014 08:14 LACONIA — Jack Severance, 58, of Laconia, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, January 3, 2014, after a period of failing health. Jack was born October 15, 1955 in Franklin, N.H. as a twin to sister, Joan. He was the son of the late Harry V. and Eva Mae (Johnson) Severance of Washington Street in Lakeport. Jack grew up in Lakeport, N.H., attending Laconia schools and graduating from Laconia High School in 1973. He attended Keene State College and received a certificate to teach Drivers Education, which he did for some time. Jacks passion for cars led him to start working at a young age. As a teenager he did food prep at the old Shore Diner and washed cars at Piper Dodge Garage to save for his first car. He drove trucks for many years at several local companies including the R.H. Smith Gas Company, Kellers Ice Cream, Coca-Cola, and Printing Etc. Jack met many wonderful friends at these jobs and was always telling stories of the adventures he had meeting so many people. He had a passion for helping and was a firefighter for the Laconia Fire Department Call Company for several years and volunteered with the American Red Cross Disaster Services Division, eventually working full time for them as head of Disaster Services. Later in life he worked for Northeast Security, before landing his final and favorite job as a Dispatcher for the Laconia Police Department, which he loved immensely. The Laconia Police Department and all the people who work there became his second family and he loved telling stories at family gatherings about all of them and the fun times he had working there. Jack really enjoyed people and making them laugh. He was a compassionate man whowould help anyone when needed. He enjoyed classic cars, NASCAR racing and going on tour boat rides whenever possible. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved going on adventures and was always cracking jokes and making people laugh. He loved comedy and seeing people smile. He adored his daughter and grandchildren, as well as all his friends and family. Jack is survived by his daughter, Kristen Vaughn, and husband, Ryan, of Tilton, his pride and joy grandchildren, Brianna, Brendon, Dillon and Sophia; his sister, Sandi Libby, and husband, Wayne, of Nashua, their children, Jennifer Anderson and her son, Brian, of Nashua, Scott Libby, wife, Laurie, and children Matt, Julia, and Valerie of Merrimack; his brother, the Rev. Art Severance, and wife, Cathie, of Mentor, Ohio, their children, Cristina Schroeder, husband, Ryan, and children, Liberty Rose and Aaron of San Antonio, Texas, Katie Severance and fiancé, Phillip Volkers, of Austin, Texas and Elizabeth Severance of San Antonio, Texas; twin sister, Joan Coursey, and husband, David, of Rumney, along with their children, Nick Coursey, wife, Naomi, and their children, Ryan and Emma of Plymouth, Kevin Coursey, fiancée, Taylor Hankins, and children, Katie and Aaron of Campton, and Liz Mayhew, husband, Dave, and children, Olivia and Madison of Campton; his cousin, Mary Johnson Bickford, of Gilford; his wonderful and supportive, life-long best friend, Jay Goodwin, and wife, Linda, of Laconia, good friends, Jeff and Lorraine Daigle, his co-workers at the Laconia Police Department, as well as many other good friends he met over the years. He is also survived by his beloved and loyal cat, Miss Kitty. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Eva Mae Severance of Lakeport, his grandparents, aunts, and uncles. A special thanks to all those friends who sent good wishes and stories of remembrance and who called and visited to keep Jacks spirits up during his final days. He was especially honored and pleased to have Chief Chris Adams, Detective Jeff Wholley, Lieutenant Rich Simmons and Department Secretary Cheryl Deturk come and visit, as well as some classmates and old friends. It meant the world to him. A Memorial Service will be held in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home at 164 Pleasant Street in Laconiaon Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2 p.m. There are no calling hours, however, the family would especially enjoy visiting with guests at a reception, directly following the service, at the Beane Conference Center, 35 Blueberry Lane, Laconia, N.H. Interment will be at Bayside Cemetery at a later date, in a private family ceremony.
