Jackie Webber, Bobcat Tractor Tree & Landscape and Eager Beaver Stump Grinding Women Who Love (Their Succulents) Too Much Whoever is marketing succulents and cacti must be making bank this year. Everywhere I look, my friends are taking pictures of their chubby succulents and bright cacti: Instagramming them, naming them, talking about how to care for them, and so on. Succulent popularity started on a slow roll in 2014, but it seems to have exploded this year in particular. Kudos to the succulent growers of America (and the world!) for getting the message are freaking adorable. IT WOULD BE HARD not to notice them, because they’re everywhere. Succulents, including many Sedum and Sempervivum and other less-familiar faces, seem to be trying to tell me something this season, as in: “We’re all the rage.” At garden shows and nurseries, and even in my own garden where a few pieces fell out of a pot and planted themselves as if to say, “I belong right here, ” I feel as if 2014 is the Year of the Succulent. I’m paying heed by starting a succulent wall planting; using them in pots, and more. You won’t fInd any plants better adapted for growing in pots than succulents. Mostly native to arid regions, succulents store water in their fleshy leaves, stems, and roots, enabling them to resist drought. This means they don’t need to be fussed over with frequent watering, so you can go ahead and enjoy a weeklong summer vacation without giving them a second thought. . Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
