Jackson Produce October Newsletter. As the month is ending, the summer heat is kicking in, the first week of trading for Jackson Produce comes to a close and week two is about to begin. I appreciate the support, feedback, and especially the business from everyone that I have had the pleasure of dealing with recently. Weekly Specials this week are: Machine Picked Green Beans: $3.85/kg, only $1.93 for 500grams. I am now supplying new season local Gatton machine picked green beans. All North Queensland products are now finished and the local product is looking good. Continental Cucumbers: $2.13 each. Continental Cucumbers will remain cheap for the next week with quality at its best. Jap Pumpkins: $1.02/kg, selling the average 3kg size for only $3.06 Cherry Tomatoes, 250gram Punnets: $1.85 each. Quality remains good and pricing great value. Certified Free Range Eggs, 500 gram medium size: $3.95 a dozen Market Supply & Updates. What’s New This Week. This week has seen the addition of a few new products, including Red Delicious Apples, Honeydew Melons, Figs, Mangos, Blood Oranges, a few varieties of Pears, Lettuce and Carrots. White Onions, Micro Herbs, and Buck ‘N’ Roo’s honey is back in stock. Apples – Supply remains light, hence the high prices. We are expecting prices to firm further as fruit becomes even shorter. Bananas – Cavendish Bananas will continue to rise as supply continues to lighten off. This is due to a long cold winter in the north which has ultimately affected the numbers of fruit that growers are currently cutting. Colour is the biggest problem, followed by continuity in the quality of the fruit. A lot of normal growers are either sending to Sydney for a better price or simply are not packing the fruit. I am doing the best with what is available and expect things to stabilize in a week or two once demand slows off. Mangos - NT Mangos have finally appeared on the market in reasonable supply. Mangos are now available this week with prices dropping steadily over next few weeks. At present expect to pay $3.71 on the good volume. Potatoes - Queensland season is nearly over for washed potatoes. South Australian product has started again and we will be seeing the first loads of product arriving this weekend. Quality has been said to be good and pricing should start to ease. Stonefruit quality (taste wise) has been very poor over last few weeks which can’t be said about the price being asked. Low Chill fruit from coastal areas do not have anywhere near the desired taste necessary to sell this fruit at such prices! At present some fruit is arriving from Nth NSW and Traprock (west of Stanthorpe) which does have the quality and taste requirement to do so. Without any doubt the White Flesh Peaches and Nectarines are the pick but I do expect there to be Yellow Flesh here next week which will fit the bill. White and Yellow will be costing the same as present market value while there is not much fruit around. As supply picks up over next few weeks so does demand as customers, chains and retailers stock up. Prices will drop but slowly until a big hit is received from Stanthorpe and/or the south over coming weeks. We are expecting a large crop with excellent quality from most areas following a cold dry winter and barring any wild storms specially with hail. For these reasons I haven’t introduced these stonefruits yet but they will be available very shortly. Please be confident when ordering as I will be testing and buying only the best eating lines. Lychees, Apricots and Cherry’s usually kick in during November (with grapes) and good eating Plums just after. Christmas Puddings 2014 I am contemplating stocking Christmas Puddings in the lead up to Christmas. I am looking to gain some feedback and find out if the interest is there to make this happen. These puddings are made using the finest ingredients, 100% Australian vine fruits, individually hand weighed and shaped, boiled in the cloth in the traditional method, hung on a line to dry, age and mature naturally, nothing artificial added. Gluten free puddings would also be available, made with free range eggs. GM free, no artificial colours, preservatives, or flavours, dairy free and lactose free, and have no added sugars or artificial sweeteners. 5 options would be: the Traditional Round Christmas Pudding, Gluten Free Christmas Pudding Log, Chocolate & Orange Pudding, Macadamia & Brandy Log, and a Date & Toffee Pudding. All puddings weigh 500grams, are made in Australia by the famous and award winning Pudding Lane, and would retail at $27.00. Voted Australias No.1 Finest Christmas Pudding by the Sydney Morning Herald and Melbourne Age. Let me know your thoughts, always provide feedback, give me your suggestions, and continue to ask questions. I want to hear what you have to say.
