Jacques Pepin and his charming wife Gloria visited us at The Inn yesterday, along with some friends from Connecticut. We have been friends for years and he knew that we had a suite named in his honor and brought along some fascinating personal memorabilia to add his touch to the space. We didnt realize that Jacques was a talented artist until he presented us with a magnificent canvas he had painted and several water colors. Along with the art works were some wonderful photos of Jacques with Julia Child and Craig Claiborne. Jacques stayed in our presidential cottage which is named after Craig Claiborne, the NY Times food writer and cookbook author. It was a fortuitous room assignment since Craig had been Jacques greatest mentor (aside from his mother). After dinner Jacques came into the kitchen to greet the staff and pose for pictures.
