Jade Groobman, a sophomore at Fairview High (Boulder), participates in a mass student protest against a requirement to take state standardized tests in science and social studies in their senior year. Jade said she is protesting as a sophomore because she will have to take these tests when she becomes a senior and wants to stand up for her education rights. She describes the amount of standardized tests students take throughout school and states they do not provide valid feedback for her to improve. Jade said any testing should benefit students and that the student protesters care about this cause. The vast majority of Fairview parents opted their seniors out of taking the CMAS tests, and the students braved sub-zero temperatures during the scheduled testing time to gather outside their school, talk with the media about their stand and do some community fundraising. The students also engaged in a letter-writing campaign to state lawmakers inside the school gym. #MoreThanAScoreCO
