JahRation Nation!!! I pray you all had a safe, successful weekend! I want to address the issue of fad dieting. Recently, I had an interaction with a young lady who claimed to have lost 19 lbs in two weeks on the latest fad The Military Diet. Now, for those of you who have not heard of this, this diet gives you a meal plan for three days, and for the next three days intake is limited to 1200-1400 calories. The meal plan consisted of foods like hotdogs for dinner and ice cream for dessert. THIS IS NOT the way to transition into cleaner eating and healthier bodily function. After doing my own research, I found that the claims were broad-based with no supporting literature and no credentialed author. Neither was it related to the military in any capacity. You will see many diets of this sort and some very extravagant claims from those who may have tried it. The reality is, you didnt gain the weight overnight, most likely it wont fall off overnight either. If it looks TOO good to be true---It most likely IS! IF you are seeking to gain long-term, healthy results--MODERATION IS KEY. Strict diets forcing to eliminate certain foods that you LOVE, is a set up for failure. EATING LESS of the bad foods you love, will yield results and can be feasibly implemented into a long term plan. Too often, strict diets can cause an overconsumption of bad food in binge eating spells that leave you feeling guilty and failing. If you are on a diet, especially a fad diet, please carefully do your research to ensure the plan you are choosing is backed by scientifically studied methods with legitimate health professionals, preferable a registered dietitian or medical doctor. (Not a nutritionist--that requires NO license). Anyone can make up a diet consisting of 1200-1400 cal per day. Will it make you BETTER in the long-term should be the goal for each of you. Okay, you can set it on fire now.
