Jai guru dev Transcript of Satsang with Sri Sri on Sunday, 10-Aug-2014 at Yagnashala, Bangalore Ashram. (Translation from Kannada to English) How are you all? I am very fine. Hmmm… Today is Raksha Bandhan festival. Full moon day in the Shravan month is celebrated as Upakarma. Upakarma means carrying the responsibility on shoulder, parents, society, tradition. It has three threads which are symbols of these three aspects. We have responsibilities towards society, parents. I have acquired knowledge so I have responsibilities. These are the three responsibilities symbolically represented by upakarma. So many years, this knowledge has been carried forward by Masters / Rishis. So we express the gratitude on this day. Also protection from fear. The knowledge will be shield for fear, so if you have knowledge fear will go away. Raksha means protection, bandhan means bondage. In business, if one brother gets business, success, then other brother gets jealous. From the bondage fear will go away. Full moon day of Shravan Maas. It is is Chitra month. There is a speciality for that. Chitragupta is a person who keeps note of all the things that we do, good or bad. Second is Buddha poornima. Third one is Vyasa poornima / guru poornima. Fourth one is shravan poornima which is today, this is for the rishis. Next one is ananth poornima. There is another one called sharad poornima, depicts joy. One more is Karthik poornima, they light lamp of knowledge & bring the light of knowledge & remove ignorance from life. Today we express gratitude to all the tradition of rishis, masters. Why we should give it? The rishis had the sankalpa of one world family so everybody should be like this, so we do this. In life we have excuse for celebration. (Gurudev speaks in English now) When we live in society always there is some argument, misunderstanding, difference of opinion, all these create tension and insecurity. When society lives in fear it is bound to get doomed. Family lives in fear it is bound to get doomed, so this Raksha Bandhan is festival to give assurance to look onto each other and withing you. Festival of connectivity. And giving confidence to each other that I am there with you, committed to protect you, to stand by you. With this assurance, fear vanishes. Purpose of raksha bandan is to remove fear. When this bonding is there, there is no fear. Lack of bonding, fear comes in. whether in family or society, this distorts our goodness, distorts our creativity. It shrinks our personality and badly affects our behavior toward others. Many people who are aggressive has insecurity. Raksha Bandhan gives assurance of bonding. Bonding removes fear and ignorance has to vanish from life. Chandan tika is the wisdom. Let wisdom reign in your life, not foolishness, stupidity. This festival is to celebrate knowledge. Each full moon is dedicated to special attributes. In the month of April, first full moon is attributed to celebrate life with caution, be alert and celebrate. Second is Buddha poornima, when Lord Buddha was born. Third is Jyeshta poornima, it is celebrated as the full moon of the earth. Then Ashad poornima as guru poornima. And this poornima is celebrated for ancient saints, and rishis who are remembered. All the four Vedas were written by many many Rishis. Next full moon is dedicated to infinity, and the one following that is sharad poornima, where we celebrated, dance. Lord Krishna was born. Each poornima has grand reason and celebration behind it. In Art of Living, we celebrate everything. Any day is celebration. Yes, then what else? We will do a short meditation. Let’s meditate for short while. Those who all know Gayatri Mantra should chant today. … How many birthdays and anniversaries, stand up…
