Jamal Rasheed Ph D · Newburgh Theological Seminary I have often said so many people have been purposefully left out of the history of the civil rights movement by those who want to capitalize off it and make money instead of telling the truth. It appears when our people get rich and become film makers they do the same thing. I have been asked if I have seen the movie Selma and my answer was no. I have been to Selma 4 times and learned for myself. It is more than locking arms, crossing the Edmond Pettis Bridge and singing we shall overcome. More so it is more than about Dr. King. This movie could have come out in February or any other time except it was also about making money and pimpin Dr. King. If all of the African Americans who watched Selma, walked and marched in parades, went to black tie gala events which raised money in the name of Dr. King and did not give a cent back, studied Dr. King 24/7 365 days a year The Dream would not be the nightmare that it is today. Many people interpret his dream like many pastors interpret the bible. Doing things in the name of Jesus, which you know are not right, just as we are now doing things in the name of Dr. King which is not right by him and if he were here he would tell you. There is more violence in our community among each other than there was when Dr. King lived. If you will make an attempt to stop that, the killing among our people, then Dr. King would be smiling.
