Jambo and Karibu! Now its time to share more about where well be spending November 3-10, 2014. November 9 is when everybody on this adventure will be dancing the Mt Kili Cha Cha which is a choreographed dance by DWTS Elena Grinenko. A choreographed group dance is something that has never been attempted at Uhuru peak on top of Aricas rooftop, Mt Kilimanjaro. If successful, this will also be a Guinness world record for the highest altitude group dance on land. Altitude 5895 meters/19341 feet. Known as Africas rooftop, Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the African continent along with being the highest free standing mountain in the world. Free-standing means it stands alone and is not part of a mountain range. Mt Kilimanjaro is about 600,000-1.2 million years old. With its last eruption over 200,000 years ago. On 6 October 1889, Hans Meyer reached the highest summit on the crater ridge of Kibo. He named it Kaiser-Wilhelm-Spitze (Kaiser Wilhelm peak) That name apparently was used until Tanzania was formed in 1964 when the summit was renamed Uhuru, meaning Freedom Peak in Kiswahili. Mt Kilimanjaro offers 7 hiking trails and well be taking the Lemosho route. In January, I was advised that the Lemosho route has an 80% success rate. A big part of the success comes from the extra day were taking for the hike which will allow us to acclimate to the height. Most hikes are 5days/4nights or 6days/5nights, which I did in September 2011. Our hike will be 7days/6nights, giving us that extra day. For the past week youve seen what youll be viewing. Mt Kilimanjaro could be 1.2 million years old. Are you ready to be part of the first group to EVER dance a choreographed dance at the top?
