James 3:8-12"but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. 10 And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! 11 Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water? 12 Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring." As we approach a new week I challenge each of us to look at this piece of scripture and remember how very powerful our tongue is. We can use it to lift up or tear down. We can use it to glorify God or we can use it in a detrimental way against him and others. This is not just curse words or "bad" words. This talks about our gossiping of others, our verbally tearing down those we work with, go to school with, attend Church with, or even live with. Lord, I pray that you put a rememberance in the back of our minds throughout this week of how we use our tongue. That we control what comes out of it. This World is so full of bad news, of things that tear down the hearts and minds of men........let it not be from the tongues of those who serve you. Let us lift up those who have fallen, let us remain positive for those who come against us. Most importantly, let our mouth only say things that honor and glorify you.
