James K. Copenhaver was a very important part of my college career. He helped make it possible that my dreams and aspirations of becoming a leader were met! I had the pleasure of serving as conductor of the USC marching bands for 3 years and to play in his Wind Ensemble and Symphonic band. I cherish every moment. I remember the days of working in the band office and being nervous every time I walked by his office door because I knew him to be very intense. Thats what made him special. If you could get him to smile, you knew you were doing something right! I was able to get him to smile and I am just blessed to have been able to know him. Thank you for help making my college years the best years of my life. Thank you for the gifts you shared with the many students that followed you! I will never forget! We will all miss you, Mr Copenhaver! Rest peacefully our dear director, teacher, leader, and friend.
