James Smith formerly of Happy Hollow passed away last week. Mr. Smith was the oldest living graduate of Ferndale Grade School. JAMES THOMAS JIMMY SMITH, 96, of Kenova, went to be with the Lord Friday, November 14, 2014 at his sons residence. Jimmy was born July 27, 1918 in Huntington a son of the late Tom and Tennie Riggs Smith. He was a decorated WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Jimmy was a member of the 20th Street Baptist Church in Kenova, where he faithfully served as a deacon for 35 years and was a retired salesman for the Huntington Candy Company. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #93 whose Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites. Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Edna Mae Terry Smith; one sister Minnie Lee Pelfrey; one brother Don Smith and one nephew Don Smith, Jr. Jimmy is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law Jim Jr. (Dorothy) Smith of Kenova; Terry (Vivian) Smith of Huntington and David Smith of St. Joseph, Michigan; one sister-in-law Edith Terry of Kenova; nieces and nephews Mary Allen, Nancy (Jim) Newton, Shirley (Jon) Berger, Clarice Waggoner, Virginia Hicks, Jim (Donna) Pelfrey, Don Pelfrey, Mike Lewis, Denice Terry, Debbie Terry, Sandra Parsley and Roberta Smith and Family. He is also survived by several step-grandchildren and a host of friends and his church family who he deeply appreciated. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Hospice of Huntington and a special caregiver Jennifer ODell and Billie Jo Roberts, his step-grandchild who has helped with his care. Visitation will be Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rollins Funeral Home. Funeral services will conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the 20th Street Baptist Church in Kenova, with Pastor Hugh Summer and Associate Pastor John McSweeney officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Rollins Funeral Home is assisting the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Huntington P.O. Box 464 Huntington, WV. 25709. Mr. Smith will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service. Online condolences may be expressed at rollinsfh.
