Jamie asks...I have a 15 year old male dachshund who almost died November 2013 when his lungs filled with fluid and he lost breathing capabilities due to his underlying heart disease (which I had no idea existed until he woke up very sick). He has terrible teeth and just recently had an abscess tooth. The infections will continue to occur (I would assume) and antibiotics are the only answer. I have the option of taking him to Boston to have a teeth extraction with a cardiologist on hand and the cost is around $1300+. I am very concerned about his recovery from anesthesia and the tooth extraction. The vet said there is a possibility my dog may not survive due to his age and health problems. Has anyone had experience with tooth extractions on senior dachshunds with heart disease? I dont want to see him uncomfortable after surgery or not make it, but I also dont want him to continue to get infections and cause more health problems. Thank you!!
