Jammit 19th September “Live and Un-rehearsed”, the stage - TopicsExpress

Jammit 19th September “Live and Un-rehearsed”, the stage backdrop says and from the opening number that slogan rang true when the instrumental was conjured up on the spot by “da boyz in da band”. As this Jammit was the last before a two week break over the school hols, everyone seemed intent on getting their full dose of music and frivolity before “going on the wagon” for the next two weeks. The night really got into full-on music with Jeff “I’m now retired ha ha!” Mapstone from the Sunshine Coast blasting out a couple of his superbly crafted original songs and he had the dancers on their feet from the go. He was followed in various order by Chas “I’m staying in Queensland” Whiting, Norm “Don’t ask for Running Bear” Smith, Kev “Love the one you’re with” Brand, Narelle Munday (overseas singing sensation from Bribie Island), Dave John (Olivia’s cousin), Mary “Songbird” Martin, Steve “They named a highway after me” Hume, Marlene “Drop the mic stand down for me please” Clews, Ricky Hale (of the famed Maori Troubadours) and Eduardo (The South American Songmeister). The usual suspects played in the band including drummers Paul, Scoob and Nick, percussionist Ern, bass players Kev and Greg, guitarists John, Norm and Jeff and keyboardists Chas and John. From out Esk way there magically appeared a band of musos; Chayne, John and Ian who, joined by Greg on bass, played some great, hard hitting blues. Their music was tight, melodic and very authentic sounding. Someone described it as “organic”, and that was an excellent description. During the night backing and harmony vocals were supplied by Jeff, John, Norm, Kev, Chas and Sherry. Whew! What a fantastic line-up of talent for the night. With the great food, top class music and entertainment in such a convivial setting the audience members definitely got their top-up shot of Jammit to last out the two weeks. But, and there’s always one, someone was heard to say that they would soon need another shot to,”keep the monkey off their back”. Could be a long two weeks eh? See you all then. Bring your friends.
