He said the party high command is in constant touch with PDP to ensure that it sends at least two members to the Upper House of the Parliament. “Although deliberations over candidates are being held within the party, the formal announcement in this regard will be made by the high command only after the alliance on government formation is finalized,” the leader, who wished anonymity, said. National Executive member of BJP and newly elected MLA, Dr Nirmal Singh, when contacted said, “The state unit of the party is not aware of the happenings at the higher level but the party is in the process of sending maximum possible members to the Upper House.” It has been reliably learnt that the BJP is holding negotiations with PDP and the formal announcement is also expected very soon. Party’s General Secretary (Organisation), Ashok Koul said, “There are still some days for filling of nominations for elections to the Rajya Sabha and we hope a formula will be worked out by then.” PDP spokesman, Naeem Akhter, said, “We are holding informal talks within the party on Rajya Sabha elections and if the high command deems it necessary, it may approach other parties including the BJP.” He said, “We would also like to send as many members to the Upper House as we can.” The notification for Rajya Sabha elections will be issued on 21st of January and the last date for filling of nominations will be 28th of the month. The polls will be held on 7th of February and the results will also be announced on the same day. Reliable sources said the prevailing ambiguity over government formation will “most probably be over by this time.”
