Jammu gunfight ends, 12 dead Author: Rouf banday Jammu: The fierce gunfight that erupted between Fidayeen attackers and army on Thursday morning at Arnia sector of Jammu Division ended with the death of one more civilian taking toll to 12, officials said. On Thursday morning, militants in military uniform launched deadly attack in Pindi Kather village in Arnia Sector. Officials had said that militants occupied an ‘abandoned’ army installation and fired heavily. Other officials had said that militants divided themselves into two numbers launched attack. The operation against the holed up militants was suspended yesterday due to darkness and was resumed on Friday morning amid heavy firing. The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday had said that 10 people including four militants, three civilians and three army men were killed. However, senior security officials had not confirmed the death fourth militant. The security men, in order to kill holed up militant, pressed in choppers and tanks, sources said. Besides, they said, an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) namely Tohi Viman was monitoring the bunker where from militant was firing. Defence spokesperson, Col Mahesh Mehta, told reporters that five civilians, three soldiers and four militants were killed in the encounter. Soon after the encounter was over, forces conducted searches in the area. A senior army official told GNS that the slain militants are belived to be from Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit. The militants have been identified yet. (GNS)
