Jan 14, 2014, 2:02pm CST Holy Harley: Pope Francis selling hog for charity Enlarge PR NEWSWIRE Pope Francis blesses Harley-Davidson motorcycles and riders in Vatican City. Denise Lockwood Reporter- The Business Journal Email | Twitter In honor of Harley-Davidson Inc.s 110th anniversary last year, the motorcycle manufacturer gave Pope Francis two Harley-Davidson motorcycles and a leather jacket. Now at least one of the items is headed for the auction house and the proceeds will go to a charity, according to DailyMail. Bonhams, an auction house in Paris, will sell a 1,585cc Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide on Feb. 6 at Grand Palais, the DailyMail reported. The Dyna, which features his Holiness signature, is expected to fetch $16,400 to $20,500, but there wont be a reserve set. The proceeds will raise funds for Caritas Roma, a charity that helps those in need on behalf of the Roman Catholic Church. The charity is renovating a hostel and soup kitchen in Rome. Ben Walker, who heads up the motorcycle division at Bonham, said they are honored to sell the bike. We hope to be able to do both Pope Francis and Harley-Davidson proud by raising a significant amount of money for a very worthy cause, Walker said. Pope Francis blessed more than 800 motorcycles in a special ceremony in June at St. Peter’s Square. Harley has connected with the head of the Catholic Church before. In October 2012, Pope Francis predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, blessed a pair of Harley-Davidson gas tanks. Read about that by clicking here. And no, the photo listed on Bonhams website did not feature the Pope actually riding the motorcycle.
